St. Augustine is the oldest continuously occupied European settlement in the continental United States, and its soil is saturated with the echoes of Spanish soldiers, Minorcan settlers, yellow fever victims, and restless souls who never left the ancient city. The Ghostorian's Grimoire draws from primary sources—parish records, military logs, newspaper archives, and oral histories—to separate legend from verifiable event. When we speak of a haunting, we tell you who, what, when, and why the evidence points to a presence rather than a draft.

What to Expect on an Evidence-Based Ghost Walk
Our ghost walks are designed for the curious skeptic and the open-minded believer alike. You will not be asked to hold hands and chant, nor will you be forced into a séance. Instead, you will walk the same brick streets that have borne witness to over 450 years of human drama. The route is a mile and a half at most, but within that distance lie hidden burial grounds, unmarked graves, and structures whose walls have absorbed centuries of emotion.
Each tour begins with a brief introduction to the equipment and techniques we use. You will learn how to use a digital recorder to capture electronic voice phenomena (EVP), how to read an electromagnetic field (EMF) meter, and how to interpret temperature fluctuations with an infrared thermometer. We provide a limited number of devices for participants to share, but you are welcome to bring your own small hand-held equipment. A smartphone with a voice memo app and a camera can be surprisingly effective.
We move at a leisurely pace, allowing time for quiet observation and discussion. The historic district's old brick streets can be uneven, so wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes. The tour operates rain or shine, so bring an umbrella if the forecast calls for drizzle. St. Augustine's ghosts do not wait for fair weather, and neither do we.

The South Route: Where the Dead Rest Uneasily
The South Route delves into the quieter, shadowed corners of the city south of the Plaza de la Constitución. Here, hidden burials lie beneath parking lots and private gardens, their occupants forgotten by all but the most diligent historians. We visit the site of the old Tolomato Cemetery, where the dead were once so numerous that bones surfaced after heavy rains. Though the cemetery is now closed to the public, its perimeter still yields strange sounds and inexplicable cold pockets.
We also pass by the oldest surviving structures in St. Augustine, some dating to the early 1700s. These coquina stone buildings have been homes, taverns, and hospitals, and each has its own spectral resident. One such building, now a private residence, is said to host the ghost of a Minorcan woman who died in childbirth. Neighbors report seeing a woman in a white shawl standing at an upstairs window, though the room has been empty for decades.
The South Route is particularly suited to those who prefer a more contemplative experience. The streets are less crowded after dark, and the absence of modern noise allows for clearer EVP sessions. The North Route: Landmarks, Cemeteries, and Obscure Sites
The North Route takes you through the heart of St. Augustine's most storied landmarks and its lesser-known haunted corners. We begin near the Huguenot Cemetery, a Protestant burial ground established during a yellow fever epidemic in 1821. The cemetery is locked at night, but from the gate, visitors often report seeing shadowy figures moving among the headstones and hearing the sound of a woman weeping.
From there, we walk past the Castillo de San Marcos, the oldest masonry fort in the continental United States. While we do not enter the fort at night, the surrounding grounds have their own tales. Soldiers from the Spanish, British, and American periods are said to patrol the seawall, and the ghost of a young girl in a white dress has been seen near the moat. We share the documented accounts and let you decide what to believe.
The North Route also includes obscure sites that rarely appear in guidebooks: a courtyard where a duel ended in death, a narrow alley where a pirate's treasure was once hidden, and a building that served as a makeshift morgue during the 1918 influenza pandemic. These locations are often the most active, precisely because they have not been overrun by tourists or commercial ghost tours. You will hear the real stories behind the lore, grounded in historical record.
A Night Among Ghosts: The Full Investigation Experience
For those who want to go beyond a walking tour, our A Night Among Ghosts events offer a full-scale paranormal investigation at some of the most haunted locations in the United States. These are not scripted events; they are genuine attempts to gather evidence and communicate with whatever may reside beyond our realm. You will be part of a small team led by experienced investigators who have spent years honing their methods.
The night begins with a briefing on safety, equipment, and protocol. You will learn how to conduct a controlled EVP session, how to use a spirit box responsibly, and how to document your findings. We emphasize respect for the locations and the spirits—if you are looking for a thrill ride, this is not for you. But if you are willing to approach the unknown with curiosity and humility, you may have an experience that changes how you see the world.
